Zoom Slides

PowerPoint - Zoom Slides

PowerPoint has a new feature which mimics the style of presentation of Prezzi, using one large slide to place all of the subsequent slides on. Throughout the presentation, these slides will be zoomed into when that slide is reached, giving the impression that the whole presentation is encapsulated into a single slide.

Audio

Adding an audio file to your presentation

There are two ways to add audio to a presentation:

1. Adding Audio already on your PC (saved)

2. Record Audio (record live)

To add a clip from your computer

Have the audio file saved to the computer locally as an MP3 file - (if you have an obscure file type then email ITskills@chi.ac.uk who may be able to help convert the file to MP3)

Once you have the file as an MP3 on your computer, open PowerPoint and navigate to the slide you wish the audio to appear on.

Presenter View (notes/slide preview)

How to Add Notes to your Presentation (Presenter View)

While giving a PowerPoint Presentation you can make use of something called Presenter view, this mode allows the projector* to display your presentation full screen without your notes showing to the audience. The second monitor* will show a preview of the current slide, the next slide and your notes:

Remove background (Images)

PowerPoint has a feature which allows you to remove the background from an image.  There are limitations such as needing a high-resolution, decent quality image and a clearly defined background/foreground, It still has many uses and can allow you to bypass the need for you to search for a 'cut-out'  stock image to start with.

Inserting an Image

The first step to remove the background of an image is to insert the image you wish to remove the background from. If you are not sure how to add an image to your PowerPoint, there is a guide here.

Grouping

What is Grouping?

Objects in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc) can be grouped together to perform as a singular object. This includes; images, textboxes, shapes and SmartArt.

Once grouped, the layout of each object relative to one another will stay the same even if you move or re-size the group. This allows you to move grouped objects around a document, slide or a spreadsheet without the objects separating or having to be re-sized independently.

SmartArt

What is SmartArt?

Use SmartArt to quickly and easily make a visual representations of your information. You can choose from among many different layouts including: Lists, Processes. Cycles, Hierarchy and many more. Use their visual design to efficiently communicate your message or ideas. SmartArt graphics can be created in Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.
