Adding images to a slide is one the features of Powerpoint you will use most often.

Accessing desktop Mendeley on a personal computer

1. Go to https://www.mendeley.com/reference-management/mendeley-desktop  and download the software.
2. Follow the instructions under Register for an account.

Creating an online account 

1. Go to https://www.mendeley.com/reference-management/reference-manager

Using the MS Word Plugin

1. Desktop Mendeley must be installed in order to use the plugin in Word.
2. Before you start, open a Word document and close it again.
3. You may have chosen to install the MS Word plugin when you first registered for your account, but if not, go to “Tools” then Install MS Word Plugin. Y
4. Once the plugin is installed, open a new Word document.
5. Go to references on the Word toolbar. The tools for Mendeley are displayed. 

View and select a citation style

1. Go to “View” on the toolbar.
2. Click on “Citation Styles”, then choose “More Styles” from the drop-down list.
3. This defaults to the pre-installed styles tab. If your style is listed, then highlight it and click on “use this style”.
4. Note the option to remove the URL except for webpages.

Create folders

1. From the folders panel on the left-hand side, choose “create folder”.
2. Give the folder a name and press return.
3. The folder will now be listed in the folders pane.
4. Go to either the All Documents folder or the Unsorted folder.

There are 4 ways to add references:

• Import RIS citations
• Use Web Importer Tool
• Add a PDF or folders of PDFs 
• Add a reference manually (mainly used for book sections)  

Please note: when you first open your library, a pop-up box appears, highlighting where you go to add items. Close this box down by clicking the “X” in the top right corner.
