Moodle Guidance for Notetakers

What is Moodle?

Moodle is the University's 'virtual learning environment' and is an online space where lecturers can upload resources and give important information relating to the module. Information for notetakers on using Moodle can be found on the Notetaker Help Page on Moodle. More information on Moodle can be found on the Moodle Overview For Staff page, however, this is targeted more towards lecturers.

Why do I need to use Moodle?

Whilst notetaking for a student at the University, it may be necessary for you to access the Moodle pages for the modules a student is studying, in order to access information and resources relating to the module.

How do I get access to Moodle?

Study Support Services inform the TEL (Technology Enhanced Learning) team when a new notetaker joins the University.  The TEL team will give the notetaker 'read only' access to all Moodle pages. The notetaker can then access Moodle using the web address moodle.chi.ac.uk

How do I find my student's modules on Moodle?

To find a particular module, use the search box to enter in the code, followed by a percentage symbol and the relevant academic year.  For example, for a module in the 22 academic year (beginning September 2022 and finishing summer 2023), you would search the module code then %22. So for the module HMS4001 you would search HMS4001%22   Illustrative image

What about Panopto?

The University no longer uses Panopto for lecture recordings. All videos should have been backed up and made available via Microsoft Stream. Microsoft Stream shares its videos in a different way, meaning that if you have access to the Moode page, you will be able to access the videos.
