Module Evaluation Staff Guide

1 min read

Step 1: Survey deployment (automatic)

You do not need to set up or deploy the survey.

Surveys are released automatically in ChiView according to the module end date:

  • September: modules ending after Semester 2 (previous academic year)
  • November: modules ending in Semester 1
  • April: modules ending in Semester 2

Levels 4 and 5 only, not Level 6 due to NSS

Each survey has a fixed open and close date for that deployment period.

Step 2: Students receive the task

All students enrolled on eligible live modules:

  • Receive a Module Evaluation task in their ChiView task list
  • Can access the survey at any point while it is open

At present, survey dates cannot be varied by module, and students may see the task before it is promoted in teaching sessions

Step 3: Promote the survey to your students

Although deployment is automatic, student participation depends heavily on staff signposting.

Good practice includes:

  • Briefly highlighting the survey in class
  • Posting a reminder in the Moodle modules’ Announcements activity
  • Explaining why student feedback matters and how it is used

You can direct your students to the Student Module Evaluation guidance

Step 4: Viewing results

Module Coordinators can access aggregated results for:

  • Modules they coordinate only
  • Data presented in several possible views, for example:
    • A single‑module overview
    • Longitudinal trends
    • Breakdown by one of the six NSS‑aligned indices

You will not be able to see:

  • Individual student responses
  • Data for modules you do not coordinate

Step 5: Closing the feedback loop

Once results are available, Module Coordinators are encouraged to:

  • Share a brief “you said, we’re doing” update with the cohort
  • Use Moodle forums if there is no further face‑to‑face teaching time
  • Reflect on outcomes as part of ongoing module enhancement
  • Let new students know how previous module evaluation feedback has shaped the development of the module by including this information on future Moodle pages (in line with the Moodle Minimum Requirements)
