Syncing a SharePoint storage area with your computer

Accessing the SharePoint site

SharePoint sites exist in a number of different ways and therefore accessing them for the purposes of syncing with your local PC are done differently according to their type:

  1. SharePoint site -  e.g. 'UOC staff SharePoint' - Can be accessed by clicking the Email/Office 365 menu icon and selecting SharePoint, you should then see UOC staff or any other SharePoint site you are a member of :  Illustrative image
  2. Teams file area - 'Teams' on the Microsoft Teams app will have a "file" area/tab at the top of the chat to retain files that have been shared with in the Team, this information is stored on SharePoint behind the scenes and will be available to open via Teams to view in browser ready for Syncing: Illustrative image

 

Syncing a SharePoint site:

In order to Synchronize a SharePoint site, you will need to first open the site in your browser.  This is covered in the section above under 'Accessing the SharePoint site'. 

 

  •  SharePoint Site (e.g. UOC Staff) :  Illustrative image
  1. Go to the SharePoint homepage via Mail/Office 365
  2. Select the SharePoint site you require:  Illustrative image
  3. Select the department on the left-hand side and click the Sync button:  Illustrative image
  4. Follow the on-screen prompt to "open with OneDrive": Illustrative image

Once followed the prompt is followed through, the area will be available in File explorer: Illustrative image

  • Microsoft Teams SharePoint:
    1. Open Microsoft Teams, then click the Teams Tab:  Illustrative image
    2. Select the Team you wish to sync:  Illustrative image
    3. Select a channel within the team, then the 'file' tab, then press 'Sync': Illustrative image
    4. Follow the on-screen prompt to "open with OneDrive": Illustrative image

Viewing the Syncronised area in File Explorer

Click the 'File explorer' icon on the taskbar at the bottom of the screen (windows 10):  Illustrative image

In the quick access panel on the left you should now see a 'University of Chichester' area which can be expanded, this should contain any folders you have synced:  Illustrative image
