Overview of the large format display (LFD)

Once you've connected your device to the Large Format Display (LFD), you will see your display on both screens Illustrative image

The LFD can mirror various devices such as laptops, mobile devices, and smart phones.

Types of mirroring

Wireless mirroring

To connect a device to the LFD through Wi-Fi without any physical video leads

Wired mirroring

To physically connect a device to the LFD with an HDMI or VGA lead Illustrative image

Note: If the LFD has built in Touch control, the USB lead is used to enable touch control from Windows devices

Buttons on the LFD

The LFD has the following function buttons along the left hand edge:

Button: S
Function: Source 
Description: changing the source for displaying different devices

Button: M
Function: Menu
Description: changing picture and sound setting etc

Button: upward pointing arrow
Function: volume up
Description: highlight item in main menu / adjust options in sub menu

Button: downward pointing arrow
Function: volume down
Description: highlight item in main menu / adjust options in sub menu

Button: upward pointing arrow 2
Function: menu change
Description: open the highlighted item to show sub menu

Button: downward pointing arrow 2
Function: menu change
Description: open the highlighted item to show sub menu

Button: power
Function: power on/off
Description: toggles the LFD either [On] or [Standby]

Turning the LFD on

When the power light is blue the LFD is on Illustrative image

If in standby mode, press the power button on the LFD so you see a blue light in the bottom left corner Illustrative image

Supported devices

Apple over wi-fi

Device: Apple laptop - MacBook

  • Operating system: OSX Mountain Lion (10.8) or newer
  • Connect with: *AirPlay to Apple TV
  • Connection names: S3-AppleTV (BOC) or GS-AppleTV (BRC)

Device: iPad, iPhone, iPod

  • Operating system: IOS 7 or newer
  • Connect with: *AirPlay to Apple TV
  • Connection names: S3-AppleTV (BOC) or GS-AppleTV (BRC)

Windows over Wi-Fi

Device: Windows Laptops or Windows mobile devices (incl. Windows phones)

  • Operating system: Windows 8.1 or newer
  • Connect with: *Miracast to Microsoft Display Adapter (needs a specific wireless chip)
  • Connection names: S3-Microsoft (BOC) or GS-Microsoft (BRC)

Device: Windows Laptops or Windows mobile devices (incl. Windows phones)

  • Operating system: Windows 7 or newer
  • Connect with: *Air Parrot to Apple TV (if Air Parrot is purchased)
  • Connection names: S3-AppleTV (BOC) or GS-AppleTV (BRC)

Any over wired

Device: Any device with an HDMI or VGA Port

  • Operating system: Any
  • Connect with: HDMI Lead or VGA Lead (with audio lead)
  • Connection names: N/A

Connection types for mirroring:

*Airplay - Apple's wireless streaming technology, which enables audio to be sent from an AirPlay compatible device (i.e. iPod touch, iPhone, iPad or a Mac or PC running iTunes), wirelessly to the LFD

*Miracast - Wireless display technology designed for mirroring a smartphone, tablet, or PC's screen to the LFD, without requiring any physical HDMI cables

*AirParrot - Software that mirrors your Windows display to the LFD with Apple TV, via Apple's AirPlay technology

Android

Currently we cannot be confident that Android devices are supported on the the LFD.

Miracast is supported by Android 4.4 or newer.

Below are two example guides for different Android versions.

Android example 1:

  • Settings
  • Display
  • Wireless display
  • At the top of this page, toggle [Wireless display] to [ON] and it will scan for nearby Miracast devices
  • After devices have been found, select the adapter to connect to e.g. S3-Microsoft
  • Input the PIN shown on the LFD into your device, and wait up to a minute to connect
  • Note: If you device gets stuck in a retry loop, then perhaps the device is not compatible
  • After you connect your screen will be mirrored onto the LFD

Android example 2:

  • Settings
  • Connections
  • NFC and sharing
  • Screen mirroring
  • After devices have been found, select the adapter to connect to e.g. S3-Microsoft
  • Input the PIN shown on the LFD into your device, and wait up to a minute to connect
  • Note: If you device gets stuck in a retry loop, then perhaps the device is not compatible
  • After you connect your screen will be mirrored onto the LFD
