Academic skills
Academic skills support is available for you at any point during your studies. You can get advice on how to improve aspects of your academic work such as referencing, academic writing, essay planning & structuring, critical writing, and time management & organisation.
The Academic Skills Advisor offers one-to-one tutorials and group workshops focusing on the skills you need to be successful with your studies.
Advice is for all students, no matter what level or degree you are studying.
Online resources
The University Study Skills Moodle page contains a range of online tools, including interactive videos and courses, to help you to develop essential study skills at your own pace.
One-to-one tutorials
You can book a 30 minute one-to-one tutorial with the Academic Skills Adviser to look at a range of issues including:
- Improving your essay planning and structure
- Developing your academic writing
- Referencing
- Critical writing
- Time management & organisation
- Dissertations & research skills
- Grammar & punctuation

Workshops
A series of workshops run throughout semester 1 and 2 covering the essential skills for studying at university such as developing your academic writing style, planning and structuring essays and constructing an argument in academic writing. These workshops are available on both campuses and online via Microsoft Teams.
