Referring a Student to Wellbeing Services
In order to fast track referrals of students of concern to the Wellbeing Team and to ensure data protection guidelines are followed, please use the following form:
Please note that, for security, you do need to be logged into your University account to be able to access this form:
Wellbeing Referral by Staff Form
Referrals by email are not accepted by the team as the in-box is so busy and is only managed by a small team; using the form is significantly more efficient as the referrals are very quickly identified for fast-track and the key information is readily available for the adviser to follow up.
We ask that, in the first instance, you contact the student and encouraged them to make contact with Wellbeing directly by emailing wellbeing@chi.ac.uk to book an appointment. The reason for this is twofold:
- Firstly, it shows a level of willingness and readiness by the student to engage with support.
- Secondly, it mimics how to access support outside of University, building skills and confidence to do so in the future.
However if you have a more serious wellbeing/mental health concern and feel the student is unable to contact wellbeing, or if the student has attendance issues and you have been unable to contact them, then please follow the link above to complete the online referral form. The information in this form will help us triage and prioritise students who may be at risk and who we need to ensure we reach out to.
We aim to reach out to all students referred in this way either same or next working day.
If the student is at immediate risk do not delay getting help. You can:-
- Call 999 for any urgent emergency services or
- Call University first aider/duty manager/security on 01243 816363
A range of short training video sessions, specific to University staff, for supporting vulnerable students can be found on the Charlie Waller Memorial Trust webpage
We encourage all academic staff who have a concern about a student’s wellbeing/mental health to make a referral and help create a suicide safer University community.
