What is Steam?
Steam is a video game digital distribution platform developed by Valve Corporation. This platform is used by the university to install certain items of software from games to applications. To access this platform, you must have an account. If you already have one you may sign in with it on Campus, if you don't, however, you will need to create one.
Creating a steam account
To create a Steam account you will need to go to Valve's website: https://store.steampowered.com/join
Once on the sign-up page, you will be asked for:
- your personal email address, it's suggested you use this instead of your University student email address as this will change once your study with us has been completed and require manual action to be changed to a different email address.
- Your country of residence, select the United Kingdom
You will then need to prove you're not a robot and you should be taken to the next stage:
After this you will be asked to verify your email address by clicking a link sent to the email address used:
Once the verification link has been clicked, your original browser window which was used to create the account should load a new page asking you to create a Steam account name and a password:
Once you have filled this in, click the Complete sign-up button.
You will then need to click the verification link in the email sent to you by Steam, to confirm your email address is genuine. This will complete the process and your account will be active after this.
