What is module evaluation? #
Module Evaluation (ME) is a short, confidential survey that asks students about their experience of individual modules while those modules are still fresh in their minds. Unlike the National Student Survey (NSS), which captures students’ overall degree experience at the end of their course, Module Evaluation focuses on learning and teaching at module level
The survey consists of:
- 9 core questions aligned to the six NSS themes
- 1 open comment question for additional feedback
Responses are anonymised and aggregated, so no individual student can be identified.

We are using Module Evaluation to:
- Hear students’ voices at a module‑by‑module level, not just at the end of a degree
- Identify what is working well and share good practice
- Spot issues early and support enhancement where needed
- Provide robust, comparable data that aligns with NSS and TEF reporting
The system replaces a legacy Moodle‑based process and uses updated technology that allows for clearer reporting and longitudinal analysis back to 2019 (using the same six NSS indices)

- Module Evaluation surveys are deployed automatically through ChiView
- Surveys run at specific points in the academic year, linked to when modules end
- All eligible students see a task in their ChiView task list
- Module Coordinators play a key role in signposting and encouraging participation
- Results are available to Module Coordinators in aggregated form only
