To find content you can either search the homepage or browse the menu.

The homepage also shows service status where details of planned IT maintenance and service disruptions are published. Please check service status on the Help site, Moodle or Staff intranet before reporting issues to SIZ.



Note: during your application you would have received an email containing your username and the following instructions to set your password:

  • Visit chiview.chi.ac.uk
  • In the applicant section click 'New user / Forgotten your password'
  • On the next screen, click 'Reset Password'
  • Enter your username e.g. 2310927 then click 'Send Request' which emails a reset link to your personal email address from authenticate@chi.ac.uk – be sure to add us as a 'Safe Sender' in your email settings and check your Junk folder just in case
  • Click the enclosed link in the email which is valid for 10 minutes
  • Create a password ensuring it conforms to the university's password policy Note: your password must be 8 to 16 characters, and include three of: uppercase characters, lowercase characters, numbers, and symbols. Your password cannot include your first name, last name, username, and cannot be a previously used password
  • Your username and password can now be used to log on to ChiView, Moodle, Email (Microsoft 365), and to log on to open-access computers

The university uses Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) as an additional security measure to protect your IT account from unauthorised access and cyber threats.

When accessing network services such as email, Moodle and SupportMe, you may be prompted to enter a one-time passcode which can be actioned via a mobile app.

MFA authentication methods

  • Authenticator App - the requested passcode will be displayed in the app
  • Registered telephone number - the passcode will be sent to you by SMS message or a telephone call

We recommend registering for MFA as soon as possible to protect your account. You can do this by visiting this link and signing in with your University account: mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info

ChiView is the registration & enrolment application used to manage your application through to acceptance.

It is accessed at chiview.chi.ac.uk or from the link on Moodle.

Through ChiView you can also apply for halls of residence, access reading lists, Moodle, and many of the resources you are going to hear about on the following pages.

Other ChiView functions allow you to

  • Check & update your personal details - including updating your personal email address and emergency contact details
  • View messages from Academic Registry, and from Academic Quality & Standards Service (AQSS)
  • Read the Student Handbook
  • View the modules you are registered on
  • View assessment feedback
  • Make module selections - at certain times of year
  • Use the payment portal

Moodle is the university's virtual learning environment (VLE).

It is accessed at moodle.chi.ac.uk.

Email & Microsoft 365 #

Your university email / Microsoft 365 account is accessed at mail.chi.ac.uk or from the link on Moodle / Staff intranet.

The Microsoft 365 suite includes the following services which can be accessed via the 'Apps' icon in the corner

  • Outlook email
  • OneDrive file storage
  • Teams - communication and collaboration app combining persistent chat and video meetings
  • OneNote - collaboration app for notes, drawings, screen clippings, and audio commentaries
  • Microsoft apps - including Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Calendar #

Your university calendar can be accessed from Microsoft 365 via the 'Calendar' icon. The 'People' icon allows you to add someone to your contacts list from the university directory.

Students will likely receive calendar invites to online lectures or webinars via technologies such as Microsoft Teams - in most cases this can be accessed via a browser without needing to install any software.

Outlook App - Desktop computers #

Microsoft Outlook is the full desktop email app, and is an alternative to the browser-based version.

It can be accessed via the start menu on all university Windows computers.

Advantages of using the Outlook app compared to the web-based version

  • You can tick the box to remember your password for future logons
  • Notifications appear in the system tray when new emails arrive - even if Outlook is minimised

Outlook App - Mobile devices #

Your university email and calendar can also be accessed via the Microsoft Outlook mobile app for iPhone, iPad and Android. Once installed your mobile device can be setup to receive notifications for emails and calendar events via options within the app. Note: don't use the built-in mobile apps to access your university email account e.g. iOS mail or Gmail app.

Timetables for students #

Timetabled sessions for students will automatically appear in your Microsoft 365 calendar. Teaching timetables can also be accessed via links in Moodle or ChiView.

Microsoft Office for personal devices #

You can install Microsoft Office on up to 5 personal devices. If installing on Windows or Mac - this will be the full desktop version of Microsoft Office.

Microsoft Office #

Microsoft Teams is a communication and collaboration app that combines persistent chat, video meetings, and file storage. You may be asked to use Teams for some online lectures.

Teams is available on university computers from the Start Menu or via Microsoft 365.
The Teams app can also be installed on personal devices via the Microsoft website or as part of the Microsoft Office Suite.

Microsoft Office #

You are entitled to a free subscription of Microsoft Office for use on personal PCs, Apple Macs, iOS, and Android devices:



Password manager is a self-service resource to change or reset your password, or unlock your account.

It is accessed at password.chi.ac.uk and can be used from any device, anywhere, including mobile phones.

Password manager features

  • Reset password - if you've forgotten your password, or your current password isn't working
  • Unlock account - if your account becomes locked due to 3 incorrect log on attempts
  • Change password - to set a new password if your current password is working fine

Campus card #

Your campus card is also your library card, and displays the following information

  • Student number (applicant number) e.g. 1508547
  • Library borrower number - this is typically your student number followed by an extra character e.g. 1508547X or 15085473

Uses of campus card #

Printing, photocopying & scanning Tap your card to access your print queue.
Note: before you can release print jobs you'll need to register your campus card (see printing section).
Door entry Tap your card to gain access to buildings and some rooms.
Library services You can use the library self-service machines to borrow books & other resources.
Your 8 character library borrower number is displayed on your campus card.

Student Attendance Management (SAM) The university records attendance for timetabled sessions.
Most teaching spaces have card readers requiring a tap-in with your campus card.

Printers #

Most of our printers are multi-functional devices holding A4 and A3 paper, offering the following features

  • Printing
  • Photocopying
  • Scanning

Activate campus card for printing #

Before you can release print jobs - you'll need to register your campus card by tapping on a printer reader then log on via the touch-screen using your email address as the username.

Printing from a PC or Mac #

When printing from open-access computers, select the printer called ‘Printing on boc-pc-ps’.

Your print jobs are then added to your queue ready for release.

Print Portal #

The Print Portal enables you to submit a print job to your queue via a web browser or mobile phone.

It is accessed via webprint.chi.ac.uk or from Moodle click 'Student Services' then 'Print Services'

Services include

  • Upload a file through the 'Web Print' tab
  • Email an attached document to either printmono@chi.ac.uk or printcol@chi.ac.uk
  • Topping-up print credit (see section lower down)

Releasing print jobs #

You can release print jobs from any printer on either campus.

Tap your campus card to identify yourself then use the touch-screen to select and release jobs.

If you don't have your campus card with you - log on via the touch-screen with your email address and password.

Print jobs remain in your queue for up to 3 days ready for release.

You are charged after you release print jobs.

Topping-up print credit #

You are given £2 print credit to get started.

You can top-up your credit via the following methods

  • From the Print Portal choose 'Top-up Print Credits'
  • From Moodle click 'Student Services' then 'Print Services'
  • At the SIZ counter

PrintShop #

A wide-range of specialised printing services are available through the PrintShop.

These can be used for student work, personal use, or for commercial printing.

As a student you have access to cloud storage and onsite storage - both are explained below.

OneDrive (cloud storage) #

You can upload data to your OneDrive account.
OneDrive can be accessed from Email (Microsoft 365) via the apps menu.
The OneDrive app is also available for Windows, Android, and iOS.

H-Drive (onsite storage) #

On university computers you can access your H-Drive personal storage which can also be accessed by clicking ‘Documents’ within 'Quick Access'.
Alternatively, from personal devices you can access your H-Drive using the Remote Access service.



You can install remote access software on personal devices to remotely log on to a university computer.

Once installed and connected you'll have access to the following resources

  • H drive - personal file storage
  • S drive - staff shared drive
  • Microsoft Teams
  • Microsoft Office products - such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Project, Publisher, OneNote

eduroam Wi-Fi #

eduroam is the university's wireless network. Your eduroam logon credentials can also be used at many other participating universities, colleges and institutions.

You can connect to eduroam with the below credentials, or follow step-by-step guides.

Student halls of residence #

Glide provide Wi-Fi and wired internet to halls of residence - which includes gaming services for Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch.

Support is provided by Glide, that covers help for hardware related network issues.

Campus maps #

Campus maps are available at maps.chi.ac.uk where you can select the Chichester or Bognor campus.
You can search for a lecture room or buildings - including halls of residence.
Most buildings show floor level detail.

Bus times #

Live bus departure times can be accessed at bus.chi.ac.uk or from maps.chi.ac.uk via the bus icon in the sidebar.

Microsoft 365 Copilot is an AI assistant that helps with tasks, answers questions, boosts productivity, and supports creative problem-solving.

The 'Microsoft 365 Copilot' app can be accessed on the following platforms:


Microsoft have put together some Copilot tutorials and an Introduction video to help you get started and learn the basics.

Some assignments will allow the use of GenAI to support student work in the following ways:

  • Drafting plans, structures, or ideas
  • Answering questions or getting explanations
  • Research
  • Evaluating materials
  • Starting you off on a piece of work when you have writer’s block

Students who use GenAI tools to support their work must be transparent about its use. Information on academic malpractice can be found in the Student Handbook. Students should speak to their tutor regarding specific AI guidance for each individual assignment.

The MyPC system is used to book study resources up to 14 days in advance.

It is accessed via mypc.chi.ac.uk or from the 'PC & Booth Bookings' tile in Moodle.

Room bookings #

Rooms can be booked via Resource Booker

  • Students can access Resource Booker from the 'Student bookings' link found in the Moodle top menu under 'Study related'
  • Staff can access Resource Booker by clicking the 'Room Bookings' link on Staff Intranet

Computer availability #

Visit availability.chi.ac.uk to view live computer availability of open-access areas.

Computer availability is also displayed on a screen in the entrance to both LRCs.



Learning Resources Centres (LRC) #

Both campuses have a Learning Resources Centre offering the following facilities

Drop-in support is available during opening hours from the Support & Information Zone (SIZ).

This software includes on-screen text to speech, and other tools to help with reading & writing and is available via the Start menu on university computers.

SensusAccess #

SensusAccess allows automatic conversion of documents into a range of media including audio books, e-books, and digital Braille, and can also convert inaccessible documents into a more accessible format. It is accessed via the help page SensusAccess or alternatively from the SensusAccess Moodle page.

Video captions #

Captions are available on any Microsoft Stream or eStream recordings using the CC icon.

Please note recordings done in a live environment use machine-generated captions, the accuracy of these varies depending on the audio quality, topic and speaker, and therefore are unlikely to be 100% accurate.

SupportMe Portal #

SupportMe is a self-service portal for raising support calls.

It can be accessed from supportme.chi.ac.uk.

Calls can be logged using the 'Request Support' link on the homepage. e.g. IT support calls, reporting lost property, requesting library books to be sent cross-campus.

Once your call is logged it will be forwarded to the appropriate team, and you will receive a confirmation email with a call reference number to your university email account.

Logging calls for Estates #

Calls can also be logged to Estate Management via the 'Request Estates Support' link on the SupportMe home page. e.g. for reporting issues with power sockets, heating, plumbing.

Social media tools such as Instagram, X, TikTok and Facebook are a part of everyday life. When used well, they can add to your experience at the university, but used poorly, can have a negative lasting impact to you and others.
