Help site
The Help site is a collection of self-help resources, covering topics such as

It is accessed at help.chi.ac.uk or from the link on Moodle / Staff intranet.
To find content you can either search the homepage or browse the menu.
The homepage also shows service status where details of planned IT maintenance and service disruptions are published. Please check service status on the Help site, Moodle or Staff intranet before reporting issues to SIZ.
Password manager
Password manager is a self-service resource to change or reset your password, or unlock your account.
It is accessed at password.chi.ac.uk and can be used from any device, anywhere, including mobile phones.
Password manager features
- Reset password - if you've forgotten your password, or your current password isn't working
- Unlock account - if your account becomes locked due to 3 incorrect log on attempts
- Change password - to set a new password if your current password is working fine

Password manager can also be accessed from the link in Moodle from Staff intranet under 'More links' or via the university website.
Multi-factor authentication
The university uses Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) as an additional security measure to protect your IT account from unauthorised access and cyber threats.
When accessing network services such as email, Moodle and SupportMe, you may be asked to confirm the logon request which can be actioned via a mobile app. Alternatively, you may be prompted to enter a one-time passcode.

On some mobile devices Face-ID / Touch-ID can be setup to authenticate to MFA.

Staff Intranet
The Staff Intranet is a repository of information and department pages, and includes links to many university systems and services.
It is accessed via staffnet.chi.ac.uk.
Departmental pages can be accessed by expanding 'Departments' in the left menu. For example, the Human Resources page has information useful for new employees, such as the employee handbook, links and guidance for HR Self-Service and People Manager and more.
The university's telephone directory can be accessed from the homepage or via the 'More links' icon.
The 'Service Status' block shows details for planned maintenance of IT systems, as well as information about current issues.
Staff Intranet can also be accessed from the university website by clicking 'Information for' then 'Staff' then 'Intranet'.
Please note, for students Moodle is their intranet and online learning environment.
Email & calendar (Microsoft 365)
Email & Microsoft 365
Your university email / Microsoft 365 account is accessed at mail.chi.ac.uk or from the link on Moodle / Staff intranet.
The Microsoft 365 suite includes the following services which can be accessed via the 'Apps' icon in the corner
- Outlook email
- OneDrive file storage
- Teams - communication and collaboration app combining persistent chat and video meetings
- OneNote - collaboration app for notes, drawings, screen clippings, and audio commentaries
- Microsoft apps - including Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Calendar
Your university calendar can be accessed from Microsoft 365 via the 'Calendar' icon. The 'People' icon allows you to add someone to your contacts list from the university directory.
Students will likely receive calendar invites to online lectures or webinars via technologies such as Microsoft Teams - in most cases this can be accessed via a browser without needing to install any software.
Outlook App - Desktop computers
Microsoft Outlook is the full desktop email app, and is an alternative to the browser-based version.
It can be accessed via the start menu on all university Windows computers.
Advantages of using the Outlook app compared to the web-based version
- You can tick the box to remember your password for future logons
- Notifications appear in the system tray when new emails arrive - even if Outlook is minimised
Outlook App - Mobile devices
Your university email and calendar can also be accessed via the Microsoft Outlook mobile app for iPhone, iPad and Android. Once installed your mobile device can be setup to receive notifications for emails and calendar events via options within the app. Note: don't use the built-in mobile apps to access your university email account e.g. iOS mail or Gmail app.
Timetables for students
Timetabled sessions for students will automatically appear in your Microsoft 365 calendar. Teaching timetables can also be accessed via links in Moodle or ChiView.
Microsoft Office for personal devices
You can install Microsoft Office on up to 5 personal devices. If installing on Windows or Mac - this will be the full desktop version of Microsoft Office.

Teams & Office
Microsoft Office
Microsoft Teams is a communication and collaboration app that combines persistent chat, video meetings, and file storage.
Please visit the Teams Overview page for detailed guides.
Teams is available on university computers from the Start Menu or via Microsoft 365.
The Teams app can also be installed on personal devices via the Microsoft website or as part of the Microsoft Office Suite.
Microsoft Office
Depending on your contract with the university, you will have different ways of being able to use Microsoft Office.
All staff can use Microsoft Office Web Apps. These can be accessed by visiting office.com and signing in with your university account, and features most of the functionality provided by the Microsoft Office apps.
If you are a Full or Part time member of staff, then you will be able to use the full Microsoft Office suite of applications on a university desktop or laptop computer.
Full and Part time staff are also entitled to a free subscription of Microsoft Office for use on personal PCs, Apple Macs, iOS, and Android devices:
Staff on Hourly Paid Contracts (HPPS) will be unable to access Office on a university computer and will not have the entitlement to install Office on a personal computer. If a full Office licence is required for an Hourly Paid Contracted member of staff, the line manager will need to request this using SupportMe.
Campus card
Your campus card is also your library card and can be used for the following purposes

Printing
Printers
Most of our printers are multi-functional devices holding A4 and A3 paper, offering the following features

- Photocopying
- Scanning

Activate campus card for printing
Before you can release print jobs - you'll need to register your campus card by tapping on a printer reader then log on via the touch-screen using your email address as the username.
Printing from a PC or Mac
When printing from open-access computers, select the printer called ‘Printing on boc-pc-ps’.
Your print jobs are then added to your queue ready for release.
Print Portal
The Print Portal enables you to submit a print job to your queue via a web browser or mobile phone.
It is accessed via webprint.chi.ac.uk or from Moodle click 'Student Services' then 'Print Services'
Services include
- Upload a file through the 'Web Print' tab
- Email an attached document to either printmono@chi.ac.uk or printcol@chi.ac.uk
- Topping-up print credit (see section lower down)
Releasing print jobs
You can release print jobs from any printer on either campus.
Tap your campus card to identify yourself then use the touch-screen to select and release jobs.
If you don't have your campus card with you - log on via the touch-screen with your email address and password.
Print jobs remain in your queue for up to 3 days ready for release.
You are charged after you release print jobs.
PrintShop
A wide-range of specialised printing services are available through the PrintShop.
These can be used for student work, personal use, or for commercial printing.

File storage for staff
OneDrive (cloud storage)
Data can be uploaded to your OneDrive account. which can be accessed from Email (Microsoft 365) or via the apps menu.
The OneDrive app is also available for Windows, Android, and iOS.

H-Drive & S-Drive (on-site storage)
On university computers you can access your H-Drive personal storage which can also be accessed by clicking ‘Documents’ within 'Quick Access'.
The S-Drive is a shared folder where everyone in your department has full access to e.g. S:\Departments\Finance.
Please note: from personal devices you can use the Remote Access service to access your H-Drive or S-Drive.

You can install remote access software on personal devices to remotely log on to a university computer.
Once installed and connected you'll have access to the following resources

Wi-Fi
eduroam Wi-Fi
eduroam is the university's wireless network. Your eduroam logon credentials can also be used at many other participating universities, colleges and institutions.

Campus maps & Bus times
Campus maps
Campus maps are available at maps.chi.ac.uk where you can select the Chichester or Bognor campus.
You can search for a lecture room or buildings - including halls of residence.
Most buildings show floor level detail.
Bus times
Live bus departure times can be accessed at bus.chi.ac.uk or from maps.chi.ac.uk via the bus icon in the sidebar.

Generative AI
This page is a brief overview on the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) in academic studies, specifically in relation to assessments. Full AI guidance for students and staff is available via the more information links lower down.
Microsoft 365 Copilot is an AI assistant that helps with tasks, answers questions, boosts productivity, and supports creative problem-solving.
The 'Microsoft 365 Copilot' app can be accessed on the following platforms:
- University computers - via the Startmenu
- Web browser - through your Microsoft 365 account
- Mobile devices - iOS or Google Play
- Personal Windows computers - install from the Microsoft Store
Microsoft have put together some Copilot tutorials and an Introduction video to help you get started and learn the basics.
Some assignments will allow the use of GenAI to support student work in the following ways:
- Drafting plans, structures, or ideas
- Answering questions or getting explanations
- Research
- Evaluating materials
- Starting you off on a piece of work when you have writer’s block
Students who use GenAI tools to support their work must be transparent about its use. Information on academic malpractice can be found in the Student Handbook. Students should speak to their tutor regarding specific AI guidance for each individual assignment.

Moodle for staff
Moodle is the university's virtual learning environment (VLE).
It is accessed via moodle.chi.ac.uk.
Tutors use Moodle to publish course content for students

ChiView for staff
ChiView is used to access information held in the student record system (SITS).
It is accessed via chiview.chi.ac.uk or from the link in Staff Intranet.
For students ChiView is the registration & enrolment application used to manage their application (initiated by UCAS) through to acceptance. Students also use ChiView to apply for Halls of Residence, and to complete their IT account registration.
If accessing student information is necessary for your role, your line manager will request an account for you via SupportMe self-service.

The tutor / admin side of Module Assessment Feedback (MAF) is also accessed through ChiView.

MyPC bookings
The MyPC system is used to book study resources up to 14 days in advance.
It is accessed via mypc.chi.ac.uk or from the 'PC & Booth Bookings' tile in Moodle.

- Group study booths (students only) including a large screen to connect laptops & mobile devices to
- Individual study rooms in silent areas
- Creative suites

Room bookings
Rooms can be booked via Resource Booker
- Students can access Resource Booker from the 'Student bookings' link found in the Moodle top menu under 'Study related'

Computer availability

Computer availability is also displayed on a screen in the entrance to both LRCs.

Opening hours
The latest opening hours for the Learning Resources Centres (LRCs) are available on the Help site.
Using the library
University of Chichester staff are automatically given a library borrower account. Your staff card is also your library card and can be used on the library self-service machines. You will find your library number on your staff card and you can use this number to log in to your library account on the library catalogue. If your card is not working, please visit the SIZ desk in the LRC.

Finding information
Library Services Moodle pages #
The Library Services Moodle page for staff and students has help guides and information on using the library. From here you can access the library catalogue, which is the key to finding books and eBooks in the library and you can also access individual eBook platforms. There are also links to a dedicated Moodle page for each department.
Journals #
You can search for journal articles using a range of eResources available on the Library Services Moodle page. You can use our Discovery service to search for journal articles, or there is an option to search for specific journal publications, you can also access an A-Z of Databases and eBook platforms. For more information on finding resources, please contact your subject librarian.
Reading lists #
Library guidelines for reading lists are available on the staff intranet under Library Services, Supporting Your Teaching. As a general rule, we buy one copy of a core text per ten students. Your subject librarian will provide training on ChiReadingLists software. More information and training guides are available on the ChiReadingLists Moodle page.
Digitisation and copyright #
Digital extracts from many books and journals can be requested via your ChiReadingLists to include on your course Moodle. This will ensure compliance with copyright regulations. More information on copyright can be found on the Copyright section of the Library Services Moodle page.
Library support for your students
Subject librarians collaborate with academic staff to provide a programme of information research skills training for students at induction and throughout their course. Please contact your subject librarian for more information.
Academic skills workshops for students are also available throughout the year and can be booked at the SIZ or by email to academicskillsadviser@chi.ac.uk.
The library provides a variety of learning environments, including group study areas, silent study and bookable group study booths. PCs are available as well as power points for mobile devices.

Using other libraries #
The university participates in the Sconul Access scheme so you can use most UK academic libraries. You can apply for items that are not held at Chichester via the Inter Library Loans service. Complete an online form on the Library Services Moodle page or pick up a form available at SIZ or library enquiry desks.
ChiPrints #
It is the policy of the University of Chichester to make all research outputs freely accessible to the public (i.e. Open Access) as far as possible through the self-archiving of those outputs on the University’s institutional repository (ChiPrints).

Mendeley for Reference Management #
Mendeley allows you to store and organise your research sources as well as creating in-text and reference lists in Word in your chosen referencing style.

Mendeley has an online version and a desktop version. The desktop version is available to download on university PCs from the Managed Software Centre. Off campus, the free software can be downloaded from https://www.mendeley.com/download-desktop. In addition, your online version can be accessed at any time from https://www.mendeley.com/library and will include the same references as your desktop account. However, you must use the Desktop version if you want to incorporate your references into Word.
Training for Mendeley is provided by subject librarians via the Staff Development Programme or can be arranged by tutors for groups of postgraduate students.

Inspiration 9 is used to create mind maps for assignment planning and can be accessed via the startmenu on university computers.

This software includes on-screen text to speech, and other tools to help with reading & writing and is available via the Start menu on university computers.

SensusAccess
SensusAccess allows automatic conversion of documents into a range of media including audio books, e-books, and digital Braille, and can also convert inaccessible documents into a more accessible format. It is accessed via the help page SensusAccess or alternatively from the SensusAccess Moodle page.

Video captions
Captions are available on any Microsoft Stream or eStream recordings using the CC icon. 
Please note recordings done in a live environment use machine-generated captions, the accuracy of these varies depending on the audio quality, topic and speaker, and therefore are unlikely to be 100% accurate.

SupportMe portal
SupportMe Portal
SupportMe is a self-service portal for raising support calls.
It can be accessed from supportme.chi.ac.uk.
Calls can be logged using the 'Request Support' link on the homepage. e.g. IT support calls, reporting lost property, requesting library books to be sent cross-campus.
Once your call is logged it will be forwarded to the appropriate team, and you will receive a confirmation email with a call reference number to your university email account.

Calls can also be logged to Estate Management via the 'Request Estates Support' link on the SupportMe home page. e.g. for reporting issues with power sockets, heating, plumbing.

Social media tools such as Instagram, X, TikTok and Facebook are a part of everyday life. When used well, they can add to your experience at the university, but used poorly, can have a negative lasting impact to you and others.
