Students-Using Panopto for Assignments

If you are a student and you have to create a video as part of an assignment, your lecturer may choose to set up an Assignments folder in Panopto.

Recordings are viewed online and so you can access your videos from anywhere you have an Internet connection.

You can either:

If you have recorded a presentation by recording voice clips directly into PowerPoint, you will need to record this into Panopto to submit it as the file will be too large to be accepted by Turnitin please see the Files are too large to submit to Turnitin for guidance on Panopto recorder settings to achieve this.

If you are a Counselling student using Teams to record your session please see this page for how to submit this as an Audio only submission

Making your recording using the Panopto Recorder

If you record using Panopto, you can either record straight into the Assignments folder (see Making a Panopto recordingor into your My Folder and move it later (see Moving or Copying Panopto recordings)

When submitting your assignment, you MUST make sure that the title of your video is your student number, you can set this when you record, or if you need to or have uploaded it, you can change the name of it following the instructions for Rename Panopto recordings.

Uploading a video

With a link to the assignment folder

You may find that your lecturer has put a link to the assignment folder on the Moodle page, this should take you directly there. you can then just upload your submission following the instructions for Uploading an existing recording to Panopto

Without a link to the assignment folder

However, if the link isn't on the moodle page, then you can go into Panopto and find the folder to upload your recording or view your submission:

You will need to make sure the recording finishes up in your Module's [Assignment] folder.

Firstly you will need your module code, this can be found on the Moodle page:

Go to the Panopto website, which can be accessed through or from the Panopto Icon on the front page of Moodle

Click on Browse and then type in your module code and press enter

You should then see two identical looking options, except one option will have [assignments] at the end of the folder name. In most cases this wont show as the name is too long to see, so if you hover over each one, you'll see the full name and be able to choose the one that says [Assignments] after it (eg TEL101_AY_A_20: Module name is here [Assignments])

Once you have located the assignments folder, follow the instructions for Uploading an existing recording to Panopto

All of the instructions you may need can be found here:
