Logging in for the first time

If you previously obtained your username, temporary password, and email address on the Applicant Information Portal, you can skip this section.

To obtain your username and password you need to go through a process called ‘MakeMe’.

You will need your 7 digit student number.

Step 1

There are 2 ways to start MakeMe:

  • Method A: Direct URL
    From a web browser on any device visit help.chi.ac.uk/makeme
    Go to step 2
  • Method B : From a University computer
    From any University PC or Mac, enter ‘help’ as the username, leave the password field empty, and log in  Illustrative image
    Once logged on, click ‘Student Account Activation Process’  Illustrative image

Read the terms of service, clicking 'Next' for both pages  Illustrative image   Illustrative image

Step 3

You will then be prompted to enter your:

  • Student number / applicant number (7 digits e.g. 1508547)

  • Date of birth (6 character format e.g. 270497)

then click ‘Submit’ Illustrative image

Step 4

Your account is then shown:

  • Check that your name and course is shown correctly Illustrative image

  • Read the terms and conditions

  • Tick the box at the bottom labeled 'I have read and agree to the above terms and conditions'
    then click 'Create Account' Illustrative image

Step 5

You are now presented with your University login details: Illustrative image

  • Username (example dweb1)

  • Temporary password (which you should change using our password management system)

  • Email address (example dweb1@stu.chi.ac.uk)

At the bottom of this same page is a link to enrol on our password management system  Illustrative image   which is explained in detail in the next section

Note: your University username and password is used to log on to open access PCs and Macs, as well as web services such as Moodle and Email
