How to download / install Office 356 ProPlus

 

Office 365 ProPlus 2016
for PC

Download the application via your web based University email account:

  • If you already have a previous version of Office installed, it is recommended that you firstly uninstall Office from Add/Remove Programs, then reboot your computer
  • Go to mail.chi.ac.uk and log in
  • From the Office 365 home page click Install Office Illustrative image
    Note: if you are already in email, click Office 365 at the top  Illustrative image then Install Office Illustrative image
  • For the standard 32 bit installation, click Office 365 apps Illustrative image
    Alternatively, for the 64 bit version, or different language versions, click Other installation options Illustrative image
    Note: 32-bit Office can be installed on 32-bit or 64-bit operating systems. However, 64-bit Office can only be installed on 64-bit operating system.

  • When your installation file has been downloaded, run the exe file and follow instructions until the package is installed (the procedure for this will vary depending on your browser)
  • If prompted to enter either a product key or sign in, click Sign in to an existing Office 365 subscription then authenticate with your full University email address (not just your username).

If you have a device running Windows 10 S, you can only install Office 365 from the Windows Store, rather than attempting to use a msi installer.

Skype for Business Basic is also available as a separate download. However, this has fewer capabilities than full Skype for Business.

How many machines/devices can I run this subscription on?

Each user can install Office on 5 PCs or Macs, 5 tablets (Windows, iPad, and Android), and 5 phones. 

Is this a full version Office?

Yes, this is full Office on the PC, Mac, iPhone/iPod Touch, and Android platform and all are available for offline use.

How long will the free subscription of Office 365 ProPlus last for?

You will be licensed for the duration of your course(s) / employment because the licence is linked to your @stu.chi.ac.uk / @chi.ac.uk email account.

 


Check if you have the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows

You can check system settings to find out if you have a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows:

  • On Windows 10 or Windows 8.1: right-click the Start button then click System.
  • On Windows 8.0: on your keyboard press Windows Key and D together (to put into desktop mode), then hover the mouse in very bottom right corner, and from the popup menu click Settings, then PC Info.
  • On Windows 7: click the Start button, right-click Computer then click Properties
