Moodle - Students

Moodle is a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) that allows learning and teaching to continue outside of the classroom. It is not a program to replace face-to-face teaching, but to support it with a range of flexible online tools, as well as a place to find a module's learning resources.

In Moodle, every module you study will have its own webpage which lecturers can easily edit, giving you access to up-to-date information, announcements, copies of handouts/PowerPoint presentations and links to relevant external websites. They can also build in activities such as discussion forums, quizzes, questionnaires, chat rooms and wikis.

Moodle is open source software, which has been adopted by educational institutions globally, including The Open University.

When you sign into Portia, you are automatically logged into Moodle. You will see a list of your current modules in the My Moodle window. Above your modules there is a link to the Moodle Homepage, which is sometimes used to post up current news and information regarding Moodle at Chichester.

If your lecturers are not using Moodle, feel free to chat to them about what sort of information and activities you think would help your learning at the University.

Your lecturers can find support in the ELearning Team who can help them to set up learning resources and create activities.

If you feel uncomfortable talking directly to your lecturers, feel free to contact the ELearning Team via the Self Service link at the top of Portia and we will contact them on your behalf.

Moodle is a copy of what appears in registry, so you can only access modules that you are registered to. If you are still to register onto a module, you will not have access to it.

If you have fully registered and still do not see your modules, please contact support via the Self Service link at the top of Portia as there could be an error in registry.
